How to Clean Washing Machines to Remove Musty Smells and Mildew

If you've ever caught a whiff of rotten eggs or sulfur while transferring your laundry to your dryer, we've got some news: your dirty washing machine is to blame. Even though you rely on your washer to clean towels, clothes, and linens, it also needs to be cleaned from time to time, so that it can do its job well. It's not just about odor: Leftover laundry detergent, fabric softener, and debris stuck in the washtub can rub off on clothes, leaving behind weird marks and stains. For these reasons alone, you should be cleaning your washing machine once a month, especially if you want to prevent musty odors and keep your clothes in tip-top shape. To get more news about egg breaking machine, you can visit dinneregg official website.

Luckily, it's relatively quick and easy to clean — at least according to Carolyn Forte, director of the Cleaning Lab at the Good Housekeeping Institute. Methods vary from machine to machine (front loaders vs. top loaders, especially), so take a look at Forte's step-by-step instructions on how to clean a washing machine and then make sure that it aligns with your appliance's manufacturer's directions.

Think of all the detergent, fabric softener, and gunk that builds up on the inside of your washing machine. Not to mention the mold and grime that gets trapped under the rubber seal. While the washing machine's filter and drain hose don't require as much TLC, it's recommended to give the inside of your appliance a good clean at least once a month. Here's what to do when the time comes:

Remove any debris or pet hair: If you have a pet that sheds in the house, you're going to find pet hair in your washer after running several loads. Leave the door open until the pet hair and drum are thoroughly dry. Then, using your vacuum's soft brush attachment and vacuum out the fur.
Clean the machine: Actually, many newer models have a special washer cleaning cycle. If yours doesn't, add 1/2 cup of liquid chlorine bleach to the dispenser and run a normal cycle with hot water (or follow what the manual says). Or you can use a speciality cleaner, like Affresh or Tide Washing Machine Cleaner. (FYI, While some may recommend cleaning your machine with vinegar, the Good Housekeeping Institute Cleaning Lab doesn't believe it's effective enough.)
